Taking a break from my usual posts because... Japan!!! We spent the most amazing few days in the Kiso Valley, hiking and visiting little postal towns like this one, Narai. I’ll be posting more photos in stories. Thanks for bringing us along @ecb428 @tokyocircus, what an amazing trip! #visitjapan#kisovalley
A look through a nobleman house of the mid-1800s in Tsumago, on the Nakasendo trail, in the heart of mountainous Kiso region.
Tsumago, a 4 hours hike from Magome, is little more than an unpaved road flanked by restored traditional japanese houses. For a few hundred of yen, you can visit some of these wooden mansions, walking barefoot on the tatamis and listening to Japanese guides that try to tell you in shaky English of that one time the owner built a modern Wester-type toilet just because Emperor Meiji himself was supposed to pay a visit (but he never came. So sad).
If the weather is good and you are traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto and Osaka, you should definitely think about spending a day in the Kiso Valley.
