This week has been all about high school memories for me. So naturally, had to share one of the movies which we have watched in replay over and over again throughout the majority of my high school time. NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE (2001, NATM) is an American teen comedy film directed by Joel Gallen. The film features an ensemble of very famous cast including Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy), Chris Evans (Captain America), Lacey Chabert (Family Guy), Eric Christian Olsen (NCIS), Mia Kirshner (The L World), Deon Richmond (The Cosby Show), Randy Quaid (Streetcar Named Desire), and Riley Smith (90210). Basically, anyone who featured in that movie pursued a successful career.
NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE is a complete parody of teen movies which had accumulated in Hollywood over the decades preceding its release. While the general plot is based on the movies "She's All That” as well as "Varsity Blues”, "10 Things I Hate About You”, "Can't Hardly Wait[“ and "Pretty in Pink", the film is also filled with allusions to numerous and I mean A HELL LOT of other teenage and college-age films from the 1980s and 1990s (hence he movie title), such as Bring It On, American Pie, Cruel Intentions, American Beauty, Never Been Kissed, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Can't Buy Me Love, Jawbreaker, Sixteen Candles, Lucas, Rudy, and The Breakfast Club. If you haven’t seen any of these films, you will still enjoy this movie and understand its sarcasm. However, the more of these films in the list above you have seen, the more you will enjoy watching NATM and try to pick up all the cameos.
The plot is basic, typical American high school Jock who takes a bet with his friends he will be able to date the most “disgusting” person in high school- and eventually actually falls in love with her. But trust me, don’t pay attention to my given summary, this movie is nothing else but a 1h30 high school comedy cameos.
