This past week, Britts has been attending @atlantic.pacific 's Search & Rescue training on the coast of Wales. Atlantic Pacific conduct an incredible, intense week of training for humanitarians wanting to assist in the ongoing crisis in the Mediterranean, providing comprehensive training in casualty care, triage, shore landings, and search and rescue out at sea.
This Search & Rescue Summer School was born out of seeing many people willing to volunteer in these dangerous circumstances, but lacking the skills to be able to safely help refugees coming by sea.
Thanks to Atlantic Pacific, 46 more people this year are able to help refugees in a safe, effective manner.
Britts is beyond proud to have been invited to attend, and is eager to utilise these invaluable skills to provide even more holistic help to the refugee crisis.
Thank you AP! 🚤🌊✊ #together4rescue
Delighted to announce that twenty two of our volunteers and friends took the #Yorkshire3Peaks challenge yesterday, in memory of Chris Wainwright. Chris was instrumental in the story of how Atlantic Pacific came to be founded, and was a great friend and mentor to two of our directors, Robin and Kate. He sadly perished last year at the top of the first peak of this same challenge. Between them, our walkers raised over £10,000 - enough money for a lifeboat to be built in his memory. .
It was a beautiful day and environment but there really are no photographs which accurately communicate how painful this challenge was, and how psychologically difficult it was to keep walking with blistered feet after the first or second mountains were had been tackled. Work will begin soon on “The Wainwright” and we are immensely proud of every one of the aching, sunburnt people who made it happen. #LifeboatsWhereThereAreNone
Please sponsor our volunteers in their latest crazy effort to raise the funds to put more #lifeboatswheretherearenone: walking Yorkshire's 3 highest peaks, back to back, in 12 hours. Pity donatations will be accepted. http://ow.ly/KsBD30juXD4
Thank you to @atlantic.pacific for welcoming us with open arms during their Steering Committee Meeting.
We discussed the incredible efforts they are going to to save lives in the Mediterranean, Japan and Mozambique.
With an air of determination in the room, we also discussed what is in store for the new recruits attending the Search & Rescue Summer School (such as our founder @britty.grace!) this July, for those seeking to aid refugees attempting to reach Europe via the seas.
REFUGYM could not enjoy being a part of this supportive humanitarian community more...thank you 🙏
We are buzzing (and maybe slightly hanging...) from night’s Steering Committee meeting! 💥 💥💥 If you missed it, the overall sense was that 2018 will be big for Atlantic Pacific. We are taking our largest cohort of students for the Summer School to date, and plans are firmly underway to put lifeboats in #Mozambique and #Japan. It was also brilliant to meet the team behind @refugym_ an inspiring and young NGO whose mission is to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of refugees throughout Greece by use of a mobile gym unit. Check them out 🙌
There’s still time to sign up to join us on the #Yorkshire3peaks challenge on the May bank holiday. If you think you could walk for 12 hours straight, join us on this adventure to help put #lifeboatswheretherearenone! (You also get a cool t-shirt).
We are still on a high from what a brilliant and productive week we had at St Donat’s castle, working with 35 students at UWC Atlantic College. They collaborated with us to raise awareness of the charity in the local area, and started making our Lifeboat in a Box for Mozambique! 🇲🇿 Despite having to work through South Wales’ biggest snow storm in two decades, students made considerable headway in fitting out the shipping container. Thanks to their hard work, we feel confident that the lifeboat station will be ready to be set up in a community in 2019 as we had hoped 💯🌊⚓️#lifeboatswheretherearenone
