I’ve done many sunset hikes up to Mount Storm King, but never for sunrise. Checked that off the list today with some great company @outofthewoods and @greg_hedge. Appreciate the invite and the motivation to roll out of bed at 3:30 AM.
Having grown up on the Olympic Peninsula, sometimes it takes a photo like this for me to truly appreciate the detail and unique beauty of a temperate Rain Forest. I remember snapping this photo, looking at the preview, and instantly thinking what an incredible place we get to call home.
Hiking to Hole in the Wall is one of my favorite wintertime activities. With reduced access to our Olympics due to snow, I love exploring out in the rain forest and coast on those stormy winter days. During this photo, it was an absolute downpour, but just minutes later the sun broke out and created a huge rainbow over the waters. For me, winter is my favorite season of the park. Snow in the mountains, downpours in the rain forest, massive crashing waves on the coast, and an incredible unpredictability of what to expect everyday.
The lack of snow in the mountains is a bit distressing, but it’s hard to complain about the sunny cold weather (my favorite). The riding has been great (despite what my metal plate might say) and the sunrises even better. #spokanedoesntsuck#lovespokane#spokaneplayground
Lake Constance. Oh man. The obstacles. A road bike detour around the Dosewallips Road washout. Then a brutal 2 mile climb up roughly 4,000 feet to reach the summit. Along the way, rough terrain through a recent forest fire burn, some massive boulders, scrambling, and a whole lot of sweat! Reaching the lake gave me a whole new perspective on the rugged beauty of the park. What a gem—I left so eager to take on more challenging adventures in the interior of the park.
One of my favorite memories of the year was when I led a multi-day @hikeolympic tour with group of professional photographers visiting from China. After an action packed day from Lake Crescent, to Sol Duc Falls, the Hoh Rain Forest, and dinner at @visitkalalochlodge, we caught an unbelievable sunset at Ruby Beach. It’s always exciting when folks travel so far to visit Olympic and Mother Nature rewards them with this kind of beauty. Thanks to @visitseattle for the opportunity to assist!

I’ve been comparing myself to others a lot lately and it has been bringing me down. It also doesn’t help that I’m not feeling well and today I cracked my phone screen for the third time this year 🤦♀️ So I’m going to post every day this coming week with 3 things I’m grateful for to help boost my spirit!
Hey there! Tommy with Olympic Hiking Co. here. As I’ve began to utilize my @hikeolympic page to feature the wonderful photos and photographers of Olympic, I decided to create this account for a more personalized platform to share my hiking photos and stories here in Olympic and beyond the Peninsula. I’ll be adding some favorites of mine throughout the week and will start adding some fresh photos from 2018.
