I remember this day well, getting advice and learning some secrets for the master of M-Base #SteveColeman .
#TomorrowsWarriors have done so much for so many young musicians over the last 28 years, #GaryCrosby was my double bass teacher (I never made a very good jazz musician but my technique is ok and I can walk through them changes if I really have to!) so thank you for giving me your time when you really didn’t have to.
I met and have collaborated with so many amazing musicians who are now out there and literally changing the face and shape of British Jazz (big up yourselves, you know who you are!🔥) as well as pushing innovative ideas out through their own platforms (#exodus)
I took some serious musical beatings trying to keep up with these guys back in the day but their response to me was always warm and encouraging.
Now Tomorrows warriors are in need of funding to continue doing the amazing work that they’ve done for nearly 3 decades.
If you can help in any way at all, please head over to tomorrowswarriors.org to find out more and donate to their gofundme, I have and you should too. #BassMonk

There's no question this is a contender for jazz album of the year. I'm a huge jazz fan, being a sort of jazz musician, but I'm getting a bit sick of the scene. We always talk about 'standards' in jazz, but it's always the same tunes. Nobody is adding to the list. What excites me in jazz and jazz-influenced music is when someone adds to the canon of what's important and groundbreaking in the genre; not relying on the past for validation; USING THEIR OWN VOICE. Shabaka Hutchings seems to be trying to separate himself from the label of jazz, and I think I understand why, but there's no escaping the fact that he and Sons of Kemet have established themselves with this album as an absolutely singular voice in the world of jazz - or whatever you want to call it. If you want to hear something really refreshing, with powerful, socially-conscious themes, incredible harmony, and intricate afrobeat-inspired rhythms, please listen to this album. Thank u x
