SOTD (scent of the day): Gaïac by M. Micallef (soft vanilla wood)
I did something really stupid the other week: I ordered ridiculously expensive samples of the city exclusives collection by Le Labo (10€ for 1.5ml) and hoped that I wouldn't like a single one of them. Well, it turns out that I do like some... and one of them is Gaiac 10, a very soft woody fragrance that is almost imperceptible but creates an aura I fell for immediately. But, as you might know, the city exclusives are quite expensive so that I just don't see myself spending money on a bottle (well, we'll see).
So now that I liked this ridiculously expensive fragrance I remembered that I've got a huge discovery set - the box is probably as tall as I am - by M. Micallef I got around Christmas time last year and one of the fragrances is Gaïac, so it at least shares the name with the Le Labo. Now I am very stingy when it comes to 10€-samples and didn't even think about giving Gaiac 10 a full wearing, but with my 10ml flacon of the Micallef fragrance I didn't have a problem. In addition, I just wanted to find out what Gaiac, the note, smells like.
Comparing the two fragrances I can now clearly detect the Gaiac note in both of them. It is a very soft woody note that feels smooth like velvet or silk. It is very unobtrusive and unlike any woody note I have smelled before. And I enjoy this note very much. While Gaiac 10 is a "soliwood" - I don't really get anything else, which is also nice -, Micallef added some very interesting notes to the composition, like uplifting bergamot in the opening, wonderful resinous vanilla in the base and cloves that add something spicy/floral to the composition. It is a very sensual, slightly sweet, woody fragrance that also worked its wonders in today's heat and wasn't sickeningly sweet or overpowering. However, I guess I still prefer the Le Labo (why?!?!?!). Both, Gaiac 10 and Gaïac, can be considered skin scents, but the Micaleff performs slightly better. The Gaïac is also quite expensive, by the way, but you'd get 100ml for roughly the same prize that 50ml of the Le Labo city exclusives cost...
I can not wait to get stuck into my new fragrances this week.
I have 5 bark bars to list when we get home, as well as the male and female sample boxes to update 💖
I am also going to get the tripod out and finally catch some snaps with the new burners I have.
I am particularly in love with the starburst electric burners so its essential I capture them in all their glory.
Have a great Tuesday lovelies
