KV 8, Tomb of Merenptah(19th Dynasty) is decorated with Kings with Gods, books of Dead and Earth with some astronomical scenes. Lower chamber of tomb cleared in 1903-04 by Howard Carter contains Sarcophagus, stone coffin adorned with sculpture of Merenptah. There is usually a box beside sarcophagus in which kings personal items such as gold and swords etc are buried with him.
With one ticket you can visit three tombs in valley of the kings. Not all tombs are open for tourists, after buying ticket you have to inquire about the opened ones by local guides. Note them down and go to the model of Valley of kings in main hall of ticket area. I got lucky in shortlisted the largest tombs with the help of that model and obviously local guide.
After checking off temples in East Bank, Luxor from my bucket list, now was the time for West Bank. It's known as an archaeological paradise containing richly-decorated Tombs of the Nobles. I hired a cab* for whole day and gave him list of places i want to see in west bank. My first stop was Valley of the kings, the burial place of most of the pharaohs of Egypt.
Let me take you to the most beautiful and colourful tomb I saw in the Valley of kings.
The interior of Ramesses IV(20th Dynasty) tomb (KV 2) depicts stories of Egyptian Gods. The walls are also covered in Hieroglyphs, combination of imagery and letters which was writing style used in Ancient times. It is believed that hieroglyphs depicts the daily life and farming, including birds, flowers and bowls. One is stunned after looking at splendid craft inside of excavated tombs and it's beyond imagination that how archaeological sound and skilled artisan were back in 1149 BC (3000 years ago). *Pro Tip:
In Luxor, Uber and Careem services are not available the only means of transport for tourist are local cabs and horse-carts. You'll be surrounded by swarm of cab drivers as soon as you exit Airport departure gate. Take your time while dealing with them and bargaining is must. Don't forget to take the driver's number and book him for your West Bank visit. Every cab is registered with Local Transport Department, so they are pretty reliable. I promised the cab drivers that i'll share their numbers with my friends, so if you are travelling to Luxor just contact these guys, they'll give you most reasonable rates, also guide you as well.
