Ghost Stories- I caught a sinus infection which not only has made me feel terrible but also ruined my weekend. There’s only one thing to do on a Saturday night and running a fever. Rent a scary movie. Ghost Stories are more fun with a variety of meds and a fever. Professor Phillip Goodman devotes his life to exposing phony psychics and fraudulent supernatural events on a tv show. His mentor contacts him with three cases he couldn’t prove were frauds and asks Phillip to investigate.
There’s a special place in my heart for horror anthology movies. Creep Show scared me to death as a kid. Anyway. It could have been the cold sweats and fever but I found this movie terrifying. Not only were the set ups and jump scares good but throughout the film there’s this unnerving sense of dread. As Phillip investigates each case the audience and him feel the unnerving sense of danger and doom increase until the climax of the film after the third case which explains everything. I enjoyed the movie but the second case felt very bland compared to the other two.
The acting by Andy Nyman and Martin Freeman were good. It was co-written and directed by Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson. Definitely worth checking out if you’re stuck inside on a rainy day and want to cuddle up with loved ones or one you tolerate for a weekend. 4/5
