This week following the New Moon, amongst Eclipses and planetary convergences, has been unexpectedly difficult. With its heavy energy it triggers self-doubt, lack of confidence, and looking outside for self-worth and validation. I heard so many speaking about this, looking for connection, comfort, relief. 🌓
Yesterday, I reached out to my guidance for help and went to the woods to ground. I hadn’t been taking care the way I really needed to which was to take solo time for myself. I had not acknowledged that this phase of my spiritual growth is not going to be one of satisfaction and joy, it’s one of purging, cleansing, and facing the layers beneath those I have already faced. It had been some time since I really dug into the uncomfortable parts of myself to see and embrace them and invite them to help me bring balance to my journey; the strength in the anger, the honesty in the fear, the love in the sorrow and grief. By honoring them, I use their gifts to transform my path into a mirror for Truth and a platform for healing without discarding the parts of myself that make me relatable and complex. 🌪
I am sharing with you two videos I recorded during that session, the first contains the voices of invited guides including Barred Owls and songbirds (who I would like help identifying), and the second includes my Serpent rattle and the voices of Crow. I feel balance in these two recordings with the uplifting energy of rising hope and the cleansing energy of going within. The smudge used is mugwort to clear stagnation and blocks and to free the power of the divine feminine. 🐍 .
Each year I’ve worked Midgardsblot Metal Festival, I’ve taken a branch of mugwort from the Borre burial mounds, where it grows bountifully, to hang above my bed whenever I return home. Not only is it referred to as a traveler’s protection herb in medieval Germanic pagan folklore (you all know how much I’m working and exploring overseas), but it increases the vividness and lucidity of dreams. Though mugwort grows well just about anywhere, there is something special about plants that have lived in a place with such meaningful historical importance, where more kings have come to rest than any other place in Scandinavia, the water from the fjord almost glows and the foxes call through the forest at night. Unfortunately, unless some magic happens, it looks like I will not be able to attend to work the bar this year. So, you vikings who may find yourselves alone, stumbling drunkenly through the forest at night, “Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams.”
Instead of using ice where you’ve been experiencing chronic pain, have you tried heat, or better yet, moxa?? Ice constricts the blood flow, which is only ideal for swelling in acute injuries. Moxa helps bring blood and circulation to the area to promote healing. Here we’re using smokeless moxa for knee pain.
So thankful for these photos @6dipshit9 took of Mugwort harvest and bundling. Much appreciation for the ways big and small that people have supported me. Yesterday @tee.b0ne came over and helped me move a bunch of tables and set up the new plant area in my yard. Taking down everything from the back yard, knowing it is going to be "developed," has made the process difficult and hard on the heart. Having fresh eyes to reimagine, strategize, share new ideas that recreate the space was so helpful for me. For the first time I felt excited about the setup. @tee.b0ne does landscaping here in PDX and I cannot recommend them enough for your gardening needs 🍀🌻🐝

Burnables restocked in the shop. Plant materials have been used throughout history and within many cultures to purify, cleanse and refresh. On a physical level they offer antibacterial, antimicrobial and uplifting properties. On a spiritual level they help us release the heavy energies to leave us feeling more present, grounded and clear headed. Shown here is sweet grass (from the Native American tradition), cedar + rose (cedar is a sacred plant to some Native American people) and Palo Santo (which is a wood traced back to use in the Incan Empire). These are sure to delight your senses. Stop in we have other burnables, and essential oil sprays to explore too! #jewelweedshop#burnables, #spaceclearing#sweetgrass#cedarrose#palosanto, #incense, #aromatherapyclearingsprays#sage#mugwort#terrasuraphotography
Artemesia vulgaris, Mugwort 🌿
Mmm... This lovely herb is an aromatic dream, which is no wonder it is known to enhance dream states if used before bed!
Mugwort is in the same genus as Wormwood, Artemesia absinthium, which is a key component to the extract Absinthe. These plants contain powerful constituents for altering our mental states. Long considered potent magical and healing herbs, Artemesia is a strong herbal ally indeed!
I mostly use Wormwood medicinally as one of the strong bitters in my materia medica. While I love it for this and use it when I can, I have been unable to find patches of it since moving to New Brunswick. I look forward to experimenting with growing it on my land in the future... But for now, Mugwort grows wild and abundant all around my land and this area of New Brunswick. This patch in the photos is found behind the hardware store in Woodstock NB, the same one I mentioned in my Chicory and Sweet Clover post! Yay urban abundance!! Go herbs!!! 💚
Since it is so abundant and has been calling to me to explore it a bit deeper, I will be researching and experimenting with the difference between the two species and integrating Mugwort in more! I always LOVE getting to know a new herbal companion. They are all so unique and special... It truly fills me with such a deep love. Mmm! 😘
