Welcome to another week of Meet an Employee! This week we are meeting April, an Emergency Teacher in Tokyo. Emergency Teachers in Tokyo cover not only the Tokyo area but also all over the Tobu/Shutoken areas as well.
1. Where are you originally from?
I’m from O’ahu, Hawai’i
2. Where did you start off?
I started off working in the countryside of Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture
3. How long have you worked for AEON?
I’ve been with AEON for about four years
4. What does your job entail?
My position allows me to visit ours branch schools where I get to support the staff and students. This ranges from teaching to interacting with the students and staff. Each school is different so it’s interesting to meet students and find out about their goals. You get to build a lot of student and staff relationships along the way!
5. What made you decide to become an Emergency Teacher?
I decided to become an ET to challenge myself in terms of being flexible in each branch school’s environment. Since I moved away from the countryside, I get to see the city life while traveling in and out of Tokyo. It is a totally different scene and it’s exciting to visit various places.
6. Where was your most interesting placement?
So far, Yokohama was a really nice place to explore. You can get to Zushi and Kamakura pretty easily. Kamakura is a wonderful place to visit during all seasons. Eating my way through Chinatown was also fun to do! There are also a handful of Hawai’i inspired restaurants and during the summer they have a hula festival so I felt like I was close to home. Also, they have nice bars for trying some delicious craft beers!
Sneaking a few more early-winter pictures into my year in review. I’m a thoroughly average snowboarder but there’s just something about that cold mountain air that makes me feel so focused and peaceful. ❄️🇯🇵
So I'm getting a little too old for shit like night buses after an international flight, but this was so worth the time saved in order to maximize our trip and it allowed us to not spend money on a hotel room.
