Transparency Moment- I was going to wait until I hit exactly 3 months to post but I’ll be out of town with family for Thanksgiving and won’t have time. For those that have been following me for a while now. Know that I’ve been at this fitness and health journey for a few years now. We are all human, & sometimes life happens. And I’m not ashamed to say life happened to me. I would start and stop working out, have cheat days which turned into cheat weeks only to have mediocre to poor results. I would often ask myself why, but to be honest the answer was right in front of me. It was ME, holding myself back from being the best me I could be! I did this in 87 days! No diet pills, waist trainers, shakes, supplements, just natural! (And to those that use those things, I don’t have anything against them, nor am I looking down on those things, it just wasn’t my choice to use them)
August 24, 2018 I had a health scare! I cried and thought to myself, I have to get it together, I was depressed and unhappy with myself. I decided that enough was enough! I cold turkey eliminated carbs, even healthy carbs, and sugar from my diet. The only sugar I consumed this past 3 months was strawberries at a minimal. No bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, none of that! And I gave it all I had! After about the 3rd week sugar cravings were gone! The first 6 weeks all I did was jogging in moderation, hill sprints and minimal hit training without weights because my knees would hurt so bad from all the weight I had gained. At week 7 I started to incorporate weights and even went back to the gym the following week. I feel better than I ever have in years and though I know I will have slip ups like anyone else I vow to never go back where I was again! I’m not where I want to be, but I know where I’m headed. I’m not rushing anything, I’m taking it one day at a time. Making this a Lifestyle, and not some fad diet or quick fix! I was scrolling through the archives of past stories that Instagram keeps and thought it would be fun to recreate a before picture. I had no idea I’d see that much of a difference considering it was only 4 months ago! So crazy!! I’m so glad I took all those before pictures and documented the time in between then and now. If you’re contemplating starting your fitness journey, can I give you just one piece of advice? TAKE PICTURES. A ton of them. On days when you’re struggling or you think you’re not progressing, you’ll have those pictures to remind you just how far you’ve come 👊🏼
At 1st I just believed the doctor who said I could get 60% better. And the doctor who said 90%. I kept looking to others to tell me what I wanted to hear. .
And then I stopped listening quite so much to other people. I was simply too sick. .
I started listening to the plants in my garden. The bees buzzing by. Early morning ocean waves. The silence in staring at the moon. The growing buzz after 3 sun salutations alone on my mat.
And then the Shift happened. I could listen to the doctors. The acupuncturist, the recommended book from the library, The herbalist, the LLMD...alllll the people. And I could bounce it all off what was true for me. Taking with deep gratitude the nuggets that added to my healing and leaving the rest. .
Spend time in the quiet. Spend time with the plants. Learn to be quiet and you will learn to listen to yourself. From that place, listen to others so you can work together and find your way.
