A common theme of the very early offseason has been the possibility of the 76ers trading G Markelle Fultz in a package for Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard.
IF the Spurs were to want Markelle in the deal, if I’m Bryan Colangelo, I’d back off without hesitation.
I see a lot of what the fans are talking about. Markelle disappointed massively this year and had an injury that no one has ever seen in the NBA. At the time, Fultz seemed like he was the answer to ‘Complete’ the Process. I still think Fultz will live up to the hype, and here’s why.
Let’s not forget that the 19 year old was the 1st overall pick. His upside is still through the roof. I can see Fultz’s situation can turn out to look a lot like Lakers F Brandon Ingram. In Ingram’s rookie season, he averaged 9.4 points per game, and many people in the national media were quick to call him a bust. This year, his PPG skyrocketed to 16.4 and is now regarded as a cornerstone of the Lakers franchise. Yes, Fultz played only 17 games this year. Looking at it from my view, Markelle is still going to be a cornerstone for the 76ers franchise. He is 19 years old, give him time. Let’s not forget that scouts called him the next James Harden when he was going to be drafted.
