Hi there from BLM Southern Nevada District! Welcome to the #SilverState takeover! This weekend we will feature two of the things we are really well-known for: Special Recreation Permits and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. But first, allow us to introduce ourselves.
Beyond the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip, the Southern Nevada District Office manages more than three million acres of public lands in Clark and Southern Nye counties. Construction in the area depends on our mineral materials (sand, gravel and decorative rock) program. Our lands and realty program is a part of the everyday lives of residents with 170 Recreation & Public Purpose leases for schools, churches, fire stations, post offices and 3,400 rights-of-way that meet infrastructure needs. With our sunny skies, we boast a robust renewable energy program with 479 MW of renewable energy projects are already online and 280 MW approved but not yet constructed. We are home to two National Conservation Areas (Red Rock Canyon and Sloan Canyon), Gold Butte National Monument, 15 Wilderness Areas and portions of the Old Spanish Trail. Located in the heart of the Mojave Desert, we offer a myriad of recreation opportunities including OHV, hiking, target shooting, camping, three backcountry byways, rock climbing, viewing of cultural resources and wild horses and burros.
