Parting words from Barbara about the importance of fostering: "I bring up the stories of each of these boys specifically as many people have stated they do not foster because they know they could never give their foster up. We have a few motto's within American Greyhound that may help in that area. First one is; By adopting, you save one dog. By fostering, you save many. Another one is; Wouldn’t you rather cry watching a dog leave your home to go to a new happy home rather than cry knowing a dog died sad and alone, because no one stepped up? And finally: You won’t change the world by saving one dog, but you will change the world for that one dog.
So yes, it can be tough fostering a dog, nurturing them, teaching them, watching them learn and blossom and then letting them go to people you don’t know. Some dogs can be real stinkers and can really test your patience, but some of those stinkers are my all-time favorites and make me smile simply thinking about them. If you have a little extra room for another crate, the desire to make a true difference and want to give back the way the foster family did when they fostered your dog, please consider giving fostering a try. Each foster teaches me a lot more than I ever taught them." We hope you've enjoyed our fostering mini-series this week!
