It's been a REALLY bad Summer for trout. I haven't targeted them in a long time, which gives me more of an opportunity to fish for warmwater species, like this big smallie that I sight fished in shallow water on a Champlain flat. The fish was oddly following an American Eel as it slithered along the bottom of the lake. Was the bass just as interested in the Eel as we were? Possibly, but he was more interested in the dragonfly nymph sinking a few feet away from him.
