Who dat who dat who dat boy? It’s #RedVelvet’s first performance on the east coast! The five-member girl group from SM Entertainment has been making waves this year with the soothing, but seductive hit Bad Boy, and Japanese debut single #CookieJar just weeks before #KCONNY. Originally debuting as four, Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy introduced themselves to the world in 2014 with Red Velvet’s first single, Happiness. Its music video reached over two million views within its first 24 hours, and became the second-most viewed #Kpop music video of that month.
The following year, fifth member Yeri joined the group, and performed with her bandmates at #KCONLA - their first U.S. performance.
Red Velvet’s music falls under two unique categories - the “red” being energetic, youthful, and pop-infused, while the “velvet” being soft, elegant, and mature. They showcased an excellent mix of both during their performance, opening with 90s-R&B-inspired Bad Boy (during which, they delivered one of the biggest and most well-received surprises of the night - a half Korean/half English version of the song) and following up with Red Flavor, an infectious dancepop song that climbed the charts last July, and was named Song of the Year by @gq_korea.
