This was a kind of a low week. On Wednesday I set out for a 6 mile tempo run. I was excited that it wasn’t going to be on the treadmill since my husband had taken the day off. After about a mile I felt so tired. My legs were like bricks. I tried to pick up the pace but I just felt blah. So that run turned into 4.8 miles at a a 9:10 pace. I was pretty disappointed. Later that evening my knee started hurting. By Friday my knee was still aching, plus I had two nights in a row of poor sleep with my little one, so I decided to take the day off and give myself some more rest.
I believe that I felt so blah because I had pushed too hard on my long run last Sunday. I have to learn to keep my speed work for my midweek runs and use my long run just to get distance. I’m trying to learn from my mistakes.
So that takes us to today. I worked really hard on keeping my first few miles at a nice easy pace. Though I did speed up on the last half of the run, I didn’t ever just let myself go all out. At the end of these miles I felt good, I still had gas in the tank and I am taking that as a good thing. Hopefully I went slow enough that this week won't be a complete wash like last week. Plus I get to eat turkey, so that will be fun. 🦃
