In a couple hours, I’ll be on a flight to Colorado ✈️ and truth be told, this is my first flight on my own 😱 no friends, family, or anyone I know traveling with me. This week I'm finishing up a few dozen product label designs for Courtney's organic apothecary and aromatherapy brand, Southern Bell Products, and getting started on Patricia's ShowIt website design, so I thought I'd share a little work-up of some text layout I've been working on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've been chatting with potential clients of mine a lot lately about the use of fonts and text styles used throughout their branding.
As some of you know, I offer free branding and website evaluations for those feeling stuck and stagnant in their business. A common thread in those evaluations is an improper use of text. So many sites I've been reviewing lately lack text emphasis and cohesive married styles of text throughout. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do I mean by that? I mean that there is nothing that separates headings from subheadings, subheadings from quotes, quotes from paragraph text, paragraph text from calls to action. There is nothing that separates different areas of text and directs the reader where to look, where to read, or where to take action.
Regarding websites: When you don't emphasize certain areas and use graphics to direct your reader where to go, do you know what happens? They mindlessly scroll for five seconds or less, pay attention to nothing, absorb zero info, and exit out and move on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Regarding branding: When you're not emphasizing key information and using bold typography and graphic elements, your ideal clients pass by your brand and forget it in the process.
Having a beautiful brand is important but having a purposeful brand that ACTUALLY converts and makes people buy is so much more imperative. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
