This month we celebrate a Persian ruler who is regarded as an outstanding figure in history who affected the world and still does. It is due to his influence that Persians and their culture have survived to this day.
He was the founder of the first Persian Empire. Under his rule, the empire embraced all the previous civilized states of the ancient Near East, from the Mediterranean Sea and Hellespont in the west to the Indus River in the east, he created the largest empire the world had yet seen with 40% of the world’s population living in its borders.
He wrote the first human rights charter and was a personal hero of Thomas Jefferson. He was called “father” by Persians, the “messiah” by Jews and the “liberator” by Babylonians.
