This detail of ˈripəl inspired the entire poem that I wrote this morning. Creating this artwork has been thrilling. It feels great to be home after a beautiful week away in Montreal for work (and play).
last night I went back to school for the first time since university. even tho there were so many things that I wanted to learn over the years, I could never shake how crippling it felt to sit in a room trying to process something you truly had no interest in just so you could graduate from a program you also were not excited about. It felt so disempowering and at times depressing.
learning new techniques and tricks about the things you are actually passionate about is literally the most exciting feeling in the world!!! Last night I learnt that by adding “gel” to my acrylic paint I can actually give my paintings the texture Van Gogh gave his pieces. I guess the cool thing about being self-taught is that there is literally SOOOO much to learn!!! .
I also learnt that learning can actually be so fun when you have the power to choose what you are learning. what should I learn next?
this piece is inspired by a magical moment I had in London this summer. stay tuned for more.
