🎗 Since its establishment on 22 Dec 1942, nearly 1,500,000 medals "For the Defence of Leningrad" had been awarded to those participated in the gruesome siege of Leningrad. The obverse represents army men, sailors, partisans as well as citizens involved in the campaign. The medal took precedence over any other Soviet campaign medals.
Now St. Petersburg, Leningrad was the ex-capital of Imperial Russia, Baltic Fleet home base, an industrial city and centre for culture and art.
Due to stubborn Soviet resistance, capturing Leningrad would be too costly for the Germans. On 8 Sep 1941, they began to blockade the city to starve the population and force them into submission. The siege would last for about 900 days until it was liberated, making it the largest and most tragic siege in the modern history of mankind.
At the beginning of the siege, there were 2,500,000 civilians, 300,000 refugees and 500,000 troops. The city needed 1,000 tons of food each day but less than 200 tons were getting through the blockade. On Oct, Leningrad had sufficient food for 20 days. A month later, it was enough for 7 days!
Daily rationing of bread was 600 gr for workers, 400 gr for public servants and 300 gr for others. Later reduced to 500/300/250 and finally to 250 gr for workers and 125 gr for other civilians. Inedible substances were often used as food substitutes.
Soviet authorities exploited Lake Ladoga, the one and only loophole to supply the city. During summers, boats and barges were used to deliver supplies. During winters, horse-drawn sleighs and trucks made a perilous path across the frozen lake which is known as the “Road of Life”. The transports would then evacuate the population on their way back.
By the end of the siege on 27 Jan 1944, Leningrad was dubbed a “ghost city” because it was largely depopulated, thousands of homes abandoned and in ruin, dead bodies littered everywhere. By that time, the population was down to 600,000.
Total casualty figures vary with a number as high as 4,500,000, mostly due to starvation and cold. Hundreds of cannibalism cases were also reported. Worst death rate was 5,000 per day during the first winter with temperature as low as -30°C.
This post is about an advanced piece of military tech : Laser Designators .
A laser designator is a laser light source which is used to designate a target. Laser designators provide targeting for laser-guided bombs, missiles, or precision artillerymunitions, such as the Paveway series of bombs, AGM-114 Hellfire, or the M712 Copperhead round, respectively.
When a target is marked by a designator, the beam is invisible and does not shine continuously. Instead, a series of coded pulses of laser light are fired. These signals bounce off the target into the sky, where they are detected by the seeker on the laser-guided munition, which steers itself towards the centre of the reflected signal. Unless the people being targeted possess laser detection equipment or can hear aircraft overhead, it is extremely difficult for them to determine if they are being marked. Laser designators work best in clear atmospheric conditions. Cloud cover, rain or smoke can make reliable designation of targets difficult or impossible.

“Momentary Musings” with Gary Edward Geraci
We are now all so much more sensitive to “conspiracies” and “fake news” and we trouble ourselves to discern whether an act presented over the media is staged or indeed, an objective act of evil. My poem “Pantoum of the Maid of Orleans (La Pucelle D’Orléans)” assumes an act of pure evil against human dignity did occur; the use of chemical weapons against innocent people. I also assume, for this one moment of time, the sanctity of the coalition and its ability to transcend such evil and to deliver a unified and proportionate blow of punishing enforcement with a bare minimum loss of human life.
This may be a tough pill to swallow for some (unbelievers and believers) depending on your specific level of pain but I decree and declare that even though you're in pain----IT WILL NOT KILL YOU!
Be of good courage saith the Lord!
Be healed in the name of Jesus!
Be set free in the name of Jesus!
Be delivered in the name of Jesus!
The pain is there because its a problem! Avoid the problem- stay in pain! But I believe that God has a strategy for you! Get to God in prayer and ask Him for a strategy to combat the pain!
Glory to His name! You need to get to Him quickly! Its a strategy for that pain you are enduring and it wont be unto death!
