I have never been great at appreciating all of the small moments in life. I feel like I am always looking for the next “big” thing. Meeting a goal. Anticipating a trip. Checking off another summit. When Tonto got sick I promised myself I would try to let go of the “what’s next,” mentality and not only try to live more in the moment but also realize that those moments are often the ones that matter the most - after all, it is all those small moments that make up the majority of my life. I read a blog post recently that talked about perspectives and how to change your way of thinking so that you are reminding yourself to be more appreciative of even the small things. It was a very simple and profound message. Change your “I have to’s” to “ I get to.” For me it has made me step back in many instances and realize that there is a lot to be thankful for in the small moments. “I have to take Tonto to chemotherapy.” The sentence itself just sucks in any perspective, but the alternative could be so much worse. “I get to take Tonto to chemotherapy.” YES. I do. I am lucky he is still alive. I get to go grocery shopping. I get to clean out the van after a trip. I get to feed the dogs. While I realize there is no way for a person to be positive all the time, it sure cant hurt to try to see the good in even the most mundane things. So next time you say “I have to,” try giving “I get to,” a whirl - maybe it will help you, too! Today I “get to” unpack, clean the van, go to the store and steam broccoli and cauliflower for Tonto. I also get to snowshoe and give him and Finn way too many treats! Happy Sunday everyone! — Sponsorsed by @zukespets
