In August we have a summer social instead of a regular meeting. You may have noticed that white, green and purple is a recurring colour theme for us and indeed the WI but do you know why? These are the colours of the Women’s Sufferage Movement and there are different theories behind these colour choices. One is that the white represents purity, the green, hope and the purple was for dignity. Another theory is that it was a code - Green, White, Violet = Give Women Votes. Whatever the truth behind the colours, this display is beautiful as was the evening spent with some awesome women. #womensinstitute#flowers#floraldisplay#green#violet#purple#white#womenssufferage#votesforwomen#highwycombe#bucks#wi#wenches#wycombewenches
An impromptu sing-along lead by a fabulous Gaston at the end of the day Sunday in the pub at @ctfaire ! Our W.I.T (Wench In Training) joined in as well! Not on camera is a crowd of awesome people in the pub! Apparently the sound carried all over the site! These great unplanned moments where total strangers all come together for something fun are absolutely priceless. We love The Connecticut Renaissance Faire! ❤❤❤
As part of the largest body of volunteers in the UK, one if the things that is important to us Wenches is supporting local charities particularly supporting women. Since January, we’ve had a rolling collection for Wycombe’s Women’s Aid - a local charity helping women and children escaping domestic violence and abuse. Each month we ask members to bring something in keeping with a theme that is then donated to this life saving charity. In previous months themes have included “Time for Bed” including bath stuff, pyjamas, toys and bedding and “Spring Clean” when we collected cleaning products. This was “Room for Myself” and we gathered things that can be kept in a woman’s room so she can make drinks and enjoy snacks. This enables a traumatised woman to relax in her room and feel safe with a cuppa as she rediscovers her sense of self. #womensinstitute#charity#wenches#highwycombe#womensaid#refuge#domesticviolence#domesticabuse#supportingwomen#collection#supporteachother#localcharity
