Think of your body like an accordion; in order to make beautiful music it’s best to explore wide variety of ranges of motion. It’s OK to focus on understanding a single note of sound (bench press for example) but at some point your instrument would greatly appreciate being played on a fuller spectrum.
Here’s a simple example of how to integrate strength/flexibility and broad ROM into a lunge while integrating your shoulder girdle/midsection into the mix.
