The smile, it has been painted,
Bright and wide and clear.
It hides the saddened anguish,
Which creeps out in secret tears.
The show is crisp and polished,
To most, they seem just fine.
But the ones who hear the silent cries,
They see what lies within.
To find the soul meant for you,
With whom you speak without a word.
The one who hears your silence,
Like the early dawn songbird.
Let the guards off duty;
Those soldiers of your heart,
For here now stands before you,
One refusing to depart.
See beneath the surface,
Hear beyond the noise.
Delve into the darkness,
Wherein a heart is poised.
Wishing to be understood,
Needing to be held.
Waiting on the soft one,
With whom all fears are quelled.
